Rhythmic Breathing

3SRB is an ancient technique of breathing which calms the mind and brings total physical, emotional and mental health to our body-brain system. This technique was borne from the Yogasutra of Sage Patanjali. Shri S. N. Tavaria, taught this technique to a group of his immediate students.

Mr. Rajen Vakil is one such student of Shri Tavaria. He has been teaching this unique technique for the past 25 years. It has no association to any religion; it is simply based on breathing which is our life. Learning these 6 unique methods of breathing for 6 minutes a day has benefitted many people over the past years.

By practicing this technique, it has been found that many physical ailments such as asthma, heart problems, diabetes, arthritis and digestive-related causes have started healing and well to the path of recovery. Apart from the physical benefits, it leads to a state of deep meditation wherein a person can realize his own true divine nature.

These sessions teach us how to breathe the way we did at the time of our birth. Since our life is about breath, all causes of health and emotional issues are related to the amount of oxygen our body receives and in the Rhythm in which we breathe. When a child is born, he breathes 36 times per minute. As adults, our normal rhythm of breathing should be 12 times per minute, but most of us breathe much faster because it is affected by emotions and our actions.

To simply explain:

  • What happens when someone makes us angry and we become upset? Our breathing changes; that is because we react to the other person's action.
  • Once we become happy again, our breathing changes as a result of reaction.
  • We cannot control the actions of others BUT we can try controlling our own reactions.
  • If we keep our reactions in Balance, then the action will automatically diffuse by itself.
  • This is the fundamental idea behind this unique method of Rhythmic Breathing.

The 6 simple exercises for 6 minutes a day which Mr. Vakil teaches, brings back our breathing into Rhythm as God created us and frees us from reacting while also solving many health-related problems.

Concept

There are two paths to healing our bodies and mind. In one, we rely purely on medicine and external aids while in the other, we awaken the body’s capacity to heal from within. Self-healing is not just a process of healing but becomes an inner journey of self-transformation. It expands our consciousness and brings clarity in perception, joy and happiness. The easiest and the most effective subjective tool to self-healing is our breath.

We have taken our breathing for granted without ever realizing that there could be a direct relationship between breathing and health. Total health is not just about the physical well-being but takes into account the emotional and mental aspects as well. We might be healthy physically but if we get upset and irritated all the time, it makes us emotionally unhealthy. Similarly, our brains chatter all the time which is beyond our control. Until we are able to calm this chatter, we cannot claim that we are mentally healthy. Most of the times we live in negative emotional states that range from being upset, irritated and excited to having fear, complaining and holding onto a lot of stress. These states have a direct influence on our health. They increase our heart rate, blood pressure, decrease our digestive power, and inhibit our capacity to relax and sleep and even affect the sex function.

Just as our emotions affect our health they also influence our breathing i.e., every emotion has its own breath. In anger, we take quick and shallow breaths, under heavy stress, we feel suffocated and when we are impatient, our breathing is chaotic. Now the opposite is also true – by breathing in rhythm we can calm all our emotional outbursts and silence our chattering brains.

Shri Tavaria taught us the way of breathing in rhythm all 24 hours. Just by learning to breathe in this rhythm can restore the body to total health. It turns on the natural relaxation response of the body which in turn activates a process of self- healing. Each breath we take is healthful and works to harmonize our negative emotions, healing the repressions and wounds we hold in our subconscious minds. Slowly our brains stop their incessant chatter freeing us of stress. We enter into a comfort zone of deep relaxation which automatically brings health, peace and happiness.
